Kiipula Vocational College (KVC) is a centre of vocational education and a development centre of special education. The school offers studies for students with special needs. Education in KVC aims at providing the students, aged between 16 and 18 years, the tools to a good life and the route to the working life.

KVC offers initial vocational study programmes and preparatory and rehabilitative guidance and training. The school is always on the lookout for modern teaching methods for different learning styles. Teaching is based on practical projects and work-based learning. Studying is organized in small groups to enable the personal guidance when needed.

As a development centre of special education KVC runs development projects and it also offers services on special education to other vocational institutes and colleges. 
  
Initial vocational education

KVC offers study programmes in the following sectors of education: 

  • Culture (VQ in Crafts & Design)
  • Tourism, catering and domestic services (VQ in Catering)
  • Natural resources and the environment(VQ in Forestry or Horticulture)
  • Natural sciences (VQ in Business Information Technology)
  • Social services, health and sports (VQ in Social and Health Care, Practical Nurse)
  • Technology, communications and transport (VQ in Vehicle Technology / Logistics / Building Maintenance Technology / Electrical Engineering)
  • Social sciences, business and administration (VQ in Business and Administration)

These studies are upper secondary vocational qualifications. The scope of the study programmes is 120 credits.

In addition to the above mentioned programmes, KVC is specialised in the following areas:

  • Preparatory and rehabilitative education and guidance
  • Adult education

Preparatory and rehabilitative education and guidance

KVC offers preparatory and rehabilitative education and guidance. This education is intended for students who need to practice their basic skills.

Preparatory I:
Education and guidance preparing for upper secondary vocational education and training is intended for students wanting to complete an upper secondary vocational qualification.

Preparatory II: 
Education and guidance preparing and rehabilitating for work and independent living is targeted for the students with severe learning difficulties or disabilities and who are not participating in education and training leading to a vocational qualification.
Assessment of students is based on individual objectives set in the curriculum and it may be either numerical or descriptive. 
The scope of these study programmes is from 40 to 120 credits.

In this specific project Kiipula Vocational College brings in the strong expertise in the field of vocational education for students with special needs. In Kiipula the guidance is based on the 24hour method i.e. the education is not limited in the classroom or guidance at the working place. It covers all the areas and time of students life during the studies. The curriculum is implemented 24 hours / day. The needs of students in special vocational education have become more demanding over the past years. At the same time the requirements of working life are becoming more demanding.

For the student to become an employee and professional requires holistic approach and vision both from the college and trainers. The student will be met as physical,  psychological, social entity, and a person who has his own way of conceptualize life.
